TriValley Fly Fishers Has Room For You!
Tri-Valley Fly Fishers is a group of men and women interested in enjoying the
sport of fly fishing. We meet at 7:00 PM on the first Thursday of every
month September through June at the Livermore-Pleasanton Rod and Gun Club (directions
and map). Our meetings feature a guest speaker who shares some
of their knowledge of the sport with us - a great fishing destination, a
little-known fly fishing method that has proved successful, or an aspect of the
sport they have found enjoyable. The evening ends with a raffle of those
"must have" items of fly fishing gear. (Visitors are welcome to attend
meetings and find out what LFF is all about.)
Outings:
Our Club has numerous fishing trips
that all members are encouraged to enjoy. Members who have enjoyed fishing
various locations volunteer to coordinate these trips and provide information
about the destination, accommodations (motels or campgrounds), successful fly
patterns, etc. Some local trips are as near as Putah Creek or Delta
waters, others as far as the Eastern Sierra and Nevada. Typically, the
Club has at least one trip per month scheduled.
Special Events:
Family participation and camaraderie are developed at two annual dinners.
In January we hold the Installation Dinner where the newly elected slate of
officers is announced and feted. Later in the year, we enjoy the Fall BBQ.
The Club provides the main course and beverages, and the side dishes and salads
are provided by the members and their spouses.
Fly Tying:
If demand warrants, we will resume our basic fly tying course. A
six-evening course will encompass basic entomology, the use of tools and
"how to" tie the various life stages of the most common aquatic
insects that comprise trout food. To ensure close instruction, enrollment
may be limited.
Casting Instruction:
Through a very enjoyable relationship with the Oakland
Casting Club, we (individually or corporately) often visit the Oakland
casting ponds where Federation-certified casting instructors generously donate
their time to teach us how to put our flies where we want them to go on the
water, rather than into the bushes or our ears!
Club Newsletter:
Our Club newsletter, The Barbless Hook, arrives at members' homes monthly
to remind them of upcoming events, and to pass on new fly patterns and tips from
members who have found a better way of accomplishing some aspect of the sport,
from tying tips to casting techniques.
Annual Dues: $40.00 For more information, please contact the "Fishmaster"
(aka: the webmaster).
