This is a weekday "up and back" trip to the Feather River at the town of Oroville to fish for fresh steelhead with a few TVFF members. It is a walk and wade trip, typically involving crossing the river in shallows and fishing down the mid-stream gravel bars with indicators and high stick nymphing. It is suggested that you do bring along a wading staff as you may be wading in quicker water that is up to waist high and to facilitate your river crossings. This trip is a follow up and 2nd trip after the previous Saturday's club trip for those interested in once again chasing the "big boys".

On the 2nd year for this Club trip, we are anticipating similar results to last year when we had eight members bring a total of 23 fish to the net, including chromers up to 24” in length. The Feather is a productive and exciting water that offers a nice day trip being only 2:45 hours away from Pleasanton/Livermore. Our day will encompass a full day of fishing (bring your lunch) and an evening recap at the Oroville Brewing Company, just across the street from the river.

Typical setups include 6-8 weight rods, although 7’s are generally the best due to the current flow and strength of the fresh fish in the system. Flies will vary but can include eggs, mayfly nymphs, alevins, leeches, and various other streamers. Last year there we noticed that there was a bit of surface activity and fish feeding and jumping so they can also be caught on early season dry flies if you are so inclined (which must be quite a hoot).

Additional note: Please be aware that the following day (Thursday) has been scheduled as a backup in the event of inclement weather.

Cost:

Note that the normal TVFF cancellation policy will not apply as this will be a trip with "short term" notice for those interested. Additional costs include Steelhead and Salmon licenses, and food.

Cash price: You may pay by check or cash directly to the Club Treasurer within two weeks of registration and not pay the credit card surcharge of 3.0% if you desire. If you do pay cash you will be put into "Pending Registration" until your payment is received within the two weeks. Late payments will require you to register once again if there is space still available. The cost for this trip is $25 for TVFF members and $70 for non-members and guests that includes an annual membership to TVFF.

Credit Card price: Price of $25.75 includes the payment by credit card with the 3.0% surcharge. Guest cost is $70.75 for non-members and guests that includes an annual membership to TVFF.

Fishmeister: Alan Wyosnick

Accommodations and Food:

Each angler should bring their own lunch and drinks to normally be had in the group on one of the river gravel bars. Drinks and dinner are available for additional cost at the Oroville Brewing Company at the conclusion of the day.  Members and guests are responsible for their own transportation costs as well.

Gear and Tackle Recommendations:

Rod & line weights/types: 6-8 wt traditional fly rods & reels (or spey). Floating or intermediate/sinking lines.

Leaders and tippet: Usually short tippets no 1-3X of 4-6' are used. The fish are not leader shy this early in the run so it is more about your ability to hold a fish in a quick downstream run.

Other gear: Standard waders, usually with spikes to navigate the gravel bars, and normal fishing wear including warm clothes (layers). Hat. Waterproof jackets.  Dress for wet and/or dry weather, air temps. 25-55 degrees. You know, typical Steelhead weather.

Flies: Flies will vary but can include eggs, mayfly nymphs, alevins, leeches, and various other streamers. Last year there we noticed that there was a bit of surface activity and fish feeding and jumping and it is known that they can also be caught on early season dry flies if you are so inclined (which must be quite a hoot).

TVFF Cancellation Policy:

To sign-up for a TVFF Event  that is currently open for registration and chargeable (as set by the Fishmeister), you must both register and pay online, or via check or cash, within two weeks of registering (sent to the TVFF Treasurer) whatever fee is described for that particular Event (trip) at the time of registration. There may be multiple payments required before the trip is actually taken (usually in the case of expensive trips), but it is necessary that you do make payment in the above timely fashion for the initial amount to secure your position on the trip.  However, please note that you are still responsible for the entire amount of the trip if you should need to cancel.

Once you are registered, there are no refunds for chargeable Events and trips.  In the situation that a member is, for any reason unable to attend, they may resell their registration slot to another TVFF member (by first pulling from the waitlist if one exists).  New participants must come first from the waitlist in the order they signed up.  The member cancelling is fully and solely responsible for contacting potential members to replace them and notifying the appropriate Fishmeister.

If an event/trip is fully registered and closed to registration, you may still sign up on the Wait List to be notified if there are any cancellations.  In such a case of registering provisionally on the Wait List, you do not have to pay until such time that you clear the Wait List and are confirmed for participation.
