Event Skill Levels:

  • Fishing: requires basic casting and line management skills.
  • Stream: Beginner to advanced (some highly technical water)
  • Catch success rate: Varies but generally very good with guide taking you to the best locations and giving tips on how and where to cast

The Lower Sac (Redding and below) is a world-class rainbow fishery right in our back yard. This trip will be two days on the river, guided by Jim Roberts and other NorCal Fishing Guides (https://norcalfishingguides.com/). The fish are large, 16-20+ inch fighters that give a good battle coming to the boat. Additionally, if the salmon are dropping eggs and the Trinity is fishing well, the group can split up to fish the Trinity.  Lunch is included on the river.

Guides are happy to provide their own pre-rigged rods for anglers. Just ask! Don’t forget to buy and bring your Steelhead Report Card.

Anglers are responsible for their own lodging and travel costs as well as tips to the guides. Lodging costs are approximately $200 per person for a shared room depending on where you choose to stay.  Guide tips are generally about $40-60 per person.  Carpooling is encouraged and is a fun way to get to know the other anglers.

Cost:

Cash price: The cost is $600 per person for two days of guided fishing plus lunch on the river.

Pay by check or cash directly to the Club Treasurer within two weeks of registration.

Credit Card price: The cost is $618 per person which includes the 3% credit card fee.  Cost includes two days of guided fishing plus lunch on the river.

Guests must first register as Club members ($45 annual charge) before registering for this event.  TVFF annual dues qualify you and your qualifying family members (spouse and children under 23) for a full 12 month membership and access to all Club events and full participation.  After registering as a Club member, the above costs for the event will apply.

Fishmeister:   Gary Prince. Questions? Call 925-623-5360, garysprince1@gmail.com

Accommodations and Food:

The trip includes two days of fishing, so overnight accommodations are required. Each participant will be responsible to obtain lodging, and there are a number of chain motels along Hilltop Drive in Redding to choose from – Holiday Inn Express, La Quinta, Red Lion, Quality Inn, etc., as well as those located near The Fly Shop at Churn Creek Rd. and Bonnyview Rd., including Super 8 and Hilton Garden Inn.

It is recommended that anglers stay in Redding on Saturday night to be ready to get on the river early Sunday. Some may choose to stay over Monday night for an easy trip home on Tuesday. We will enjoy a hosted group dinner Sunday night, courtesy of Jim Roberts.   For those who wish to come up early on Sunday morning, details regarding time and location to meet will be provided as it gets closer to the trip.

Lunches are provided by the guides on the river.

Gear and Tackle Recommendations:  5- to 7-weight, 9-ft length (or longer) with standard floating lines. Guides will provide all tackle from the fly line down. Rigs usually include two flies below an indicator. Also, many guides are happy to provide their own pre-rigged rods for anglers. Just ask! Don’t forget to buy and bring your Steelhead Report Card.

Other gear:   Waders and non-studded boots as well as rain gear or other outerwear dictated by the weather. Guides will provide flotation devices in the boat. On some previous trips, guides have encouraged getting out of the boat to fish selected holes, and, as well, sometimes waders have been optional due to good weather.  We’ll have to wait for final advice from the guides. Many anglers like to bring a dry bag in the boat for extra clothes or other equipment.

TVFF Cancellation Policy:

To sign-up for a TVFF Event  that is currently open for registration and chargeable (as set by the Fishmeister), you must both register and pay online, or via check or cash, within two weeks of registering (sent to the TVFF Treasurer) whatever fee is described for that particular Event (trip) at the time of registration. There may be multiple payments required before the trip is actually taken (usually in the case of expensive trips), but it is necessary that you do make payment in the above timely fashion for the initial amount to secure your position on the trip.  However, please note that you are still responsible for the entire amount of the trip if you should need to cancel.

Once you are registered, there are no refunds for chargeable Events and trips.  In the situation that a member is, for any reason unable to attend, they may resell their registration slot to another TVFF member (by first pulling from the waitlist if one exists).  New participants must come first from the waitlist in the order they signed up.  The member cancelling is fully and solely responsible for contacting potential members to replace them and notifying the appropriate Fishmeister.

If an event/trip is fully registered and closed to registration, you may still sign up on the Wait List to be notified if there are any cancellations.  In such a case of registering provisionally on the Wait List, you do not have to pay until such time that you clear the Wait List and are confirmed for participation.

Tri-Valley Fly Fishers

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Protocol

TVFF Outings Policy as of September 20, 2020

As a club, the Tri-Valley Fly Fishers have developed and agreed to a set of required guidelines, protocols and rules in order to help direct our members on ways to stay safe on one-day outings, multi-day outings, or individual “Tag-Alongs”.

These protocols were developed by the TVFF Board of Directors as well as input from other local clubs which included a member virologist, various safety committees, and member experts. We feel that these protocols and guidelines are consistent with public health information and experts. These protocols are assured, observed, and enforced by outing leaders as well as members themselves. Extra masks, spray disinfectant and sanitizer are available from the outing leaders.

Please note that the Tri-Valley Fly Fishers accepts no liability for inadequate protection or the transmission of Covid-19 among members or guests. Therefore, each member should review the following protocols that the Club subscribes to and make an individual decision of whether to participate in an activity or not, based upon their individual circumstances and personal safety.

TVFF Outings protocols are as follows:

  • If you are sick with cold/flu symptoms then we ask you to please stay home
  • We believe in social distancing and require that all members keep a full fly rod distance of at least 6’ distance between parties
  • All attendees should wash and sanitize their hands frequently
