Renovation of historic Ah-Di-Na campground on the McCloud river. September 25-27th.
This is one of the most important rivers for fly fishing in the state and country.
On behalf of the Northern California Council, Fly Fishers International (NCCFFI), Tri-Valley Fly Fishers, and the McCloud River, you are invited to participate in the Ah Di Na Restoration Project 2025 –The Kirston Koths Memorial Ah Di Na Restoration Project (Phases I, 2, & 3).
NCCFFI is partnering with the US Forest Service and numerous stakeholders, including Tri-Valley Fly Fishers, to give this campground on the storied McCloud River a fresh start. Ah Di Na is located on the Lower McCloud, home of the Wintu people for centuries. It is now managed by the US Forest Service.
Due to the Forest Service budget and staffing shortages, campground maintenance has suffered over the years, and it is in disrepair, with rotted picnic tables, damaged fire rings, and a lot of overgrowth at the campsites themselves. And unfortunately, this is the “premier” campground for access to the McCloud and the Nature Conservancy property (think October Caddis super hatches and big and wild McCloud Rainbow trout). Please join us to give this important fly-fishing resource a much-needed restoration while we camp in the area.
All the stakeholders have something to bring to the table; expertise, financial resources (TVFF has contributed $500 to support this project), materials, and/or volunteers. We’re counting on the fly fishing clubs whose members use this campground and love this river to get engaged in the project.
Please register before the August 15th deadline with FFI for the specific dates at https://www.nccffi.org/. Please ALSO register on the TVFF website, by date, so that we can construct camping and car pooling arrangements for our volunteers.
All volunteers working on the project will be covered by US Forest Service insurance.
See TVFF date specific events for work skills & details.
Session 3 - September 25-27th:
Brush clearing and punch list. We need approximately 15-18 volunteers to complete brush removal at campsites and do trail clearing, tie up any other loose ends from the previous work session, and 3-4 people to prepare 2 lunches and three dinners for volunteers.
If you have any questions or comments, please contact Scott Harrison, the NCCFFI Project Lead, at mccloudcamp@gmail.com or 510-704-0402.
